Shelly enjoys the synergy of her three professional backgrounds (nursing, Christian missionary, and clinical social work) as she sits with each of her clients. Having grown up in an alcoholic household she sought her own professional therapy to work through her childhood wounds and resulting adult dysfunctional behaviors and addictions. She believes that everyone is a person of value and esteems the privilege of listening to the heart of the one before her. She creates a safe space where pain can gently be explored and worked through.
Shelly is passionate about the change potential inherent in her ongoing Interpersonal Group Therapy that she has offered women for 14-years. Many of life’s wounds are relational and are helped to heal through such relational connections that one experiences in the safety of this type of group.
Shelly and her missionary husband of 35-years have shared their home with several Siberian Huskies during their marriage. Their best vacation adventure was mushing a team on an Alaskan glacier! Various sizes of tropical fish aquariums have dotted their living room shared with more than 25 different international students who have rented their “students’ room.” These various friends have given Shelly great appreciation for the complexity and richness of other cultures.
